ARTIST STATEMENT

In my art practice, I use black clay and geometric illustrations to create symbol-based commentary about my community. Connected by a cavalier, playful sensibility, the glyphs I design stem from mythology, my family of origin, and the alphabet.

My work features mischievous trickster characters whose adaptability allows them to harness the forces of chaos and land on their feet. I feel a connection to these characters because, like them, I seek to be perceptive and nimble as I walk the line between seemingly disparate groups.
