Alex Paat is a visual artist who uses ceramics, neon, and drawing to examine language, life-source, and the geometry of affection. He holds an M.F.A. in Ceramics from the School for American Crafts at Rochester Institute of Technology (NY) and a B.A. in Studio Art from Cedarville University (OH).

After completing a year-long assistantship to potter Justin Rothshank in 2020, Paat worked in the ceramics materials industry at Mayco Colors while maintaining active involvement at craft schools across the U.S. In 2025, he was accepted into Haystack Mountain School of Crafts’ inaugural Artist Grant Initiative Cohort. From 2024 to 2026, Paat served as Student Director at Large on the board of NCECA (National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts).

Paat’s work has appeared in Hyperallergic, Colossal, and Studio Potter Journal. His March 2026 Ceramics Monthly article Kiln Firing Connections archives the lifespan and national impact of the 2010–2024 Rothshank Anagama in Goshen, Indiana. Currently, he maintains a studio practice in his hometown of Columbus, Ohio, where he lives with his wife Shannon and their son.
